How to measure your substrate area
Measure the length and width of every surface getting backer board — shower walls, tub decks, and floors are usually measured separately since they’re installed at different times. Subtract large fixed fixtures like a tub or vanity cutout only if they’re substantial; small gaps around plumbing are absorbed into the waste allowance.
