Siding & Exterior Calculators

Siding calculators size exterior cladding by the square and estimate installed cost for vinyl and fiber-cement (Hardie-style) siding, so you can budget a re-side before calling a contractor.

Frequently asked questions

How is siding measured?

Siding is sold and installed by the "square" — 100 square feet of wall — just like roofing. Add up each wall's length times height, subtract large openings like garage doors, and add about 10% for trim, corners, and cutting waste.

Vinyl or fiber cement — which costs more?

Vinyl is the budget choice, typically $4–8 per square foot installed. Fiber cement (Hardie board) runs roughly $8–14 installed but lasts longer, resists fire, and holds paint. The cost calculators let you compare with your own local rates.

Do these estimates include trim and house wrap?

The material figure is the siding field itself. Trim, corner posts, J-channel, house wrap, and flashing are additional — budget another 10–20% for a typical job, more for a cut-up facade with many windows.
