What size drywall sheet should I use?
The standard 4×8 ft sheet (32 sq ft) suits most walls and DIY handling. Larger 4×10 and 4×12 sheets mean fewer joints to tape and mud, but they are heavy and awkward without a helper or a lift.
Do I calculate walls and ceilings together?
You can — add the ceiling area to your wall area for a single total sheet count. Just note that ceilings often use 5/8-inch sheets (for sag resistance and fire rating) while walls typically use 1/2-inch, so you may want separate counts per thickness.
How much mud and tape does drywall need?
A common rule of thumb is about one gallon of joint compound and 37 feet of tape per 100 square feet of drywall. Buy mud in the larger buckets — it keeps well and running out mid-coat is a nuisance.
