How this calculator works
Standard carpet tiles are 24 in x 24 in, covering 4 square feet each. This calculator divides your room’s area by 4 sq ft per tile and rounds up to a whole tile, since partial tiles aren’t sold.
Formula: Tiles = Room area (sq ft) ÷ 4 sq ft per tile (24x24 in tile).
Worked example
A 15 ft × 12 ft room (180 sq ft):
- Area: 15 × 12 = 180 sq ft
- Tiles: 180 ÷ 4 = 45.0 tiles
- At $9/tile, that’s $405.00 before waste.
- With 10% waste added: 45 × 1.1 = 49.5 → rounds up to 50 tiles, or $450.00.
