Driveway sealing cost is material plus labor per square foot of driveway. The calculator applies both rates to the area and splits the totals.
Formula: Total = driveway area × sealer rate + driveway area × labor rate.
Worked example
A 40 ft × 20 ft driveway (800 sq ft), $0.20/sq ft sealer, $0.15/sq ft labor:
- Area: 40 × 20 = 800 sq ft
- Sealer: 800 × $0.20 = $160
- Labor: 800 × $0.15 = $120
- Total: $280 (set labor to $0 for a DIY estimate → $160)

Is DIY driveway sealing worth it?
For a small, sound driveway, yes — a 5-gallon pail covers about 400 square feet and costs a fraction of a pro job. Set the labor rate to zero here to model DIY. For a large or cracked drive, a professional squeegee-and-spray job lasts longer and looks better.
How often should I seal my driveway?
Every 2–3 years for asphalt. Sealing too often builds up brittle layers that crack; too rarely lets water and UV break down the surface. Wait until the driveway looks gray and dry rather than sealing on a fixed schedule.
Does sealing fix cracks?
No — sealer is a thin protective coat, not a filler. Fill cracks with crack filler and patch potholes with cold patch first, let them cure, then seal over the top. Sealing over open cracks just wastes material.
