Kitchen Cabinet Cost Calculator
A kitchen cabinet cost calculator multiplies linear feet by a grade rate. 24 ft of semi-custom cabinets installed runs $3,600 to $15,600, about $9,600 midway.
Kitchen cabinet cost calculator: a range, not a single price
A kitchen cabinet cost calculator multiplies the linear feet of cabinets by a price band for the grade you pick. Add the base and wall runs together. A kitchen with 14 ft of base and 10 ft of wall cabinets has 24 linear feet. At semi-custom rates of $150 to $650 per foot installed, that costs $3,600 to $15,600, with a midpoint near $9,600.
The formula in plain words
- Total linear feet = base cabinet feet + wall cabinet feet.
- Low estimate = total feet × the low rate for your grade.
- High estimate = total feet × the high rate for your grade.
- Midpoint = the average of the low and high estimates.
- If you install the cabinets yourself, the calculator cuts the low rate to 50% and the high rate to 70% of the installed rate. That removes the labor share.
Corner cabinets, islands, and pantry towers count by the feet of wall or floor they use along the run.
Price bands by grade
| Grade | Installed per linear foot | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Stock | $100 to $300 | Standard sizes sold from a store or warehouse |
| Semi-custom | $150 to $650 | Stock boxes with more sizes, finishes, and options |
| Custom | $500 to $1,200 | Built to your room and your design |
These bands match the ones HomeAdvisor, HomeLight, and Gilmer Kitchens publish. Some sources print higher tops, for example $400 for stock and $700 for semi-custom, so the real market overlaps these edges.
Worked examples
These match the calculator exactly.
Example 1: 14 ft of base and 10 ft of wall cabinets, semi-custom, installed.
- Total run: 14 + 10 = 24 linear ft
- Low: 24 × $150 = $3,600
- High: 24 × $650 = $15,600
- Midpoint: ($3,600 + $15,600) ÷ 2 = $9,600
Example 2: 10 ft of base and 6 ft of wall cabinets, stock, cabinets only.
- Total run: 10 + 6 = 16 linear ft
- Low: 16 × $100 × 0.5 = $800
- High: 16 × $300 × 0.7 = $3,360
- Midpoint: $2,080
How to measure
- Measure each wall of cabinets along the front face, from one end to the other.
- Count base cabinets and wall cabinets as separate runs, then add them.
- Leave out the gaps for the range, the dishwasher, and the refrigerator.
- Measure an island along its cabinet side. Count both sides if both have doors.
- Round to the nearest half foot.
- Count a corner cabinet once, by the feet of wall it covers on each side.
Common mistakes
- Counting only the base cabinets. Wall cabinets are priced per foot too.
- Comparing a cabinets-only quote with an installed range. Check which one your quote is.
- Forgetting the extras. Crown molding, filler strips, end panels, and soft-close hardware can add a few hundred dollars.
- Budgeting at the low end for a custom grade. Custom starts near $500 per foot.
- Skipping local quotes. Labor rates change a lot between cities.
- Treating the midpoint as a quote. It is only the center of a wide band, and the final price depends on door style, finish, and hardware.

Frequently asked questions
How much do kitchen cabinets cost per linear foot?
Most published guides put installed stock cabinets at $100 to $300 per linear foot, semi-custom at $150 to $650, and custom at $500 to $1,200. A few sources quote higher ceilings, so treat these as national ranges and get local quotes.
How many linear feet of cabinets does an average kitchen have?
HomeAdvisor uses 24 linear feet as the average kitchen. That is the total of base and wall cabinets added together, so a kitchen with 14 ft of base and 10 ft of wall cabinets matches it.
Do these prices include installation?
The default ranges are installed prices, with labor in them. Pick the cabinets-only option and the calculator takes out the labor share. Labor is commonly quoted at 30% to 50% of an installed price, so cabinets alone come to about 50% to 70% of the installed figure.
Why is the range so wide?
Grade, wood species, door style, finish, and hardware all move the price. A plain painted door on a stock box sits near the bottom of a band. A solid wood inset door sits near the top. The calculator gives you both ends so you can see the spread.
Does the estimate include countertops, appliances, or demolition?
No. It covers cabinets and, if you choose installed, their installation. Countertops, tear-out of old cabinets, plumbing and electrical changes, and paint are separate lines in a kitchen budget.
Estimates only. Verify quantities with your supplier before purchasing.
