How this calculator works

Installed laminate cost is material plus labor per square foot of floor. The calculator applies your rates to the room area and separates the totals.

Formula: Total = floor area × material rate + floor area × labor rate.

Worked example

A 15 ft × 12 ft room (180 sq ft), $2/sq ft material, $2/sq ft labor:

  • Area: 15 × 12 = 180 sq ft
  • Material: 180 × $2 = $360
  • Labor: 180 × $2 = $360
  • Total installed: $720

Cost reference (at $4/sq ft installed)

Room area Installed cost
120 sq ft ~$480
180 sq ft ~$720
300 sq ft ~$1,200

Frequently asked questions

How much does laminate flooring installation cost?

Laminate typically runs $3–7 per square foot installed, split between the planks and labor. The calculator defaults to $2 material and $2 labor per square foot; enter your product price and local install rate for accuracy.

Does this include underlayment?

Many laminate planks have attached underlayment; if yours don't, add roughly $0.30–0.60 per square foot for foam underlayment. Add it to the material rate or as a separate line.

What about subfloor prep and trim?

Leveling a bad subfloor, removing old flooring, and new baseboard or transition strips are extra. A badly out-of-level subfloor can add significantly to labor.

How much extra material should I buy?

Order about 10% over the room area for cutting waste, and keep a few planks for future repairs. Use the Flooring Calculator to convert area into boxes to buy.
