Luxury vinyl plank is boxed to cover roughly 24 square feet per box, though this varies by product. This calculator multiplies room length by width to get floor area, then divides by 24 sq ft per box and rounds up.
Formula: Boxes = Room area (sq ft) ÷ 24 sq ft per box, rounded up.
Worked example
A 15 ft × 12 ft room (180 sq ft):
- Area: 15 × 12 = 180 sq ft
- Boxes: 180 ÷ 24 = 7.5 → rounds up to 8 boxes
- At $70/box, that’s $560.00 before waste.
- With 10% waste added: 8 × 1.1 = 8.8 → rounds up to 9 boxes, or $630.00.
