The second figure is double the first. The tool multiplies whatever length and width you enter, so it counts a flat rectangle unless you give it the true surface.
What the area really is
Resurfacing coats the pool floor and the walls, not the water’s surface. For a rectangular pool the interior area is the floor plus the perimeter times the average depth. A shallow end and deep end change the average, so measure both and take the middle. Steps, benches and sun shelves add area as well.

What a contractor’s quote may include
A full quote often lists draining, acid washing or removing the old finish, repairing cracks, installing the new surface, filling, and startup chemistry. It may also list tile and coping. After the new finish goes in, the first weeks matter. Contractors give instructions on filling, brushing and chemistry so the surface cures well. Follow them closely, and ask about pool chemical levels on the product label or from the contractor.
Planning the timing
Resurfacing takes the pool out of service for a while, and the contractor needs dry weather for several steps. Most people schedule it in the off season. Book early, since good contractors fill their calendars, and ask about the schedule from draining to swimming. A written scope with a start date, a finish date and a warranty is more useful than a verbal estimate.
