How this calculator works
Installed patio cost is a blended material rate (pavers plus base and sand) plus labor, per square foot. The calculator applies both to the patio area.
Formula: Total = patio area × material rate + patio area × labor rate.
Worked example
A 20 ft × 10 ft patio (200 sq ft), $6/sq ft material, $8/sq ft labor:
- Area: 20 × 10 = 200 sq ft
- Material: 200 × $6 = $1,200
- Labor: 200 × $8 = $1,600
- Total installed: $2,800

How much does a paver patio cost?
Installed paver patios typically run $10–20 per square foot, covering pavers, base gravel, bedding sand, and labor. The calculator defaults to $6 material and $8 labor per square foot; premium pavers and intricate patterns cost more.
Why is labor such a big share?
A durable patio needs excavation, a compacted gravel base, screeded bedding sand, careful paver laying, edge restraints, and joint sand — most of that is labor. Cutting a lot of curves or borders adds even more.
What's included in the material rate?
The blended material rate is meant to cover pavers, base aggregate, bedding sand, and joint sand together. For exact quantities of each layer, use the Paver, Paver Base, and Polymeric Sand calculators.
Does this include excavation and disposal?
The labor rate assumes normal excavation and base prep. Removing an existing slab, hauling spoil, or building on a steep or poorly draining site adds cost — treat those as separate lines.
