Hardie Siding Cost Calculator

Estimate installed fiber cement (Hardie board) siding cost from wall area and your material and labor rates. Splits material, labor, and total.

Area = length x width. Coverage tells you how much fiber cement siding cost that area needs.

How this calculator works

Installed fiber-cement cost is material plus labor per square foot of wall. The calculator applies your rates to the wall area and separates the totals.

Formula: Total = area × material rate + area × labor rate.

Worked example

A 40 ft × 10 ft wall (400 sq ft), $5/sq ft material, $5/sq ft labor:

  • Area: 40 × 10 = 400 sq ft
  • Material: 400 × $5 = $2,000
  • Labor: 400 × $5 = $2,000
  • Total installed: $4,000

Cost reference (at $10/sq ft installed)

Wall area Installed cost
400 sq ft ~$4,000
1,000 sq ft ~$10,000
2,000 sq ft ~$20,000

How to use

Measure total wall area and enter your local rates. Compare the total against the Vinyl Siding Cost Calculator to weigh the premium, and add trim, wrap, and painting as separate lines.

Frequently asked questions

How much does fiber cement (Hardie) siding cost installed?

Fiber cement typically runs $8–14 per square foot installed — more than vinyl because the board is heavier, harder to cut, and slower to hang. The calculator defaults to $5 material and $5 labor per square foot; use local quotes for accuracy.

Why is fiber cement more expensive than vinyl?

The material itself costs more, and installation is more labor-intensive: the boards are dense and heavy, require special blades and dust control to cut, and often come pre-primed for field painting. It lasts longer and resists fire and rot, which many owners find worth the premium.

Is painting included?

Pre-finished (ColorPlus) board costs more but skips field painting. Primed board is cheaper up front but needs two coats of paint — budget that separately if you buy primed.

What's excluded from this estimate?

Trim, house wrap, flashing, tear-off of old siding, and painting of primed board. Add them as separate lines when comparing contractor bids.
